Professional Development Committee Update

I am a member of NAR’s Professional Development Committee and a graduate of the first class of REALTOR® University’s Master of Real Estate Program (MRE). I so am thrilled to be able to announce this here today. The staff and administrators at RU have worked hard for the past few years and the program is now one step closer to full accreditation.

Dr. David Overbye, Dean of Academic Affairs, said the accreditation committee made an on-site visit to the school, which is one of the final steps to achieving accreditation. We should know in January if the program reached its goal of full accreditation.

Meanwhile the program graduated 13 students in May’s second glass to bring the total to 23 graduated. Early students were the pacesetters, taking classes and completing the requirements before the program was accredited. A steady group of about 65 students are enrolled at any one time.

Once the RU MRE program is accredited, all past graduates will have a fully accredited degree, and RU staff expects a wave of new applicants to appear—those who expressed interest in the program but who were waiting to jump on board for final accreditation. As we approach the third graduating class, RU has set up alumni programs, will be fundraising for scholarships, and bringing the graduates back into the fold to keep them engaged in NAR and RU in particular.
