Even with significant campaign reform this year, the road to the NAR presidency seems to be like training for a marathon. JoAnne Poole and John Smaby have crisscrossed the country visiting local, state, and national meetings to garner votes in elections that will be held at RPCTE in May. In September they both flew to my state, Michigan, and sat down with our NAR directors and gave us the opportunity to ask
questions in a small group setting during our annual convention.
Today I attended the first candidate forum. Unlike the confrontational debates for the U.S. Presidency, our format was congenial and warm. I wouldn’t expect anything less from REALTORS®.
With an esteemed gathering of past NAR presidents vetting the questions, the candidates were asked about the issues we face as an industry and the role the association plays.
My overall impression was that we have two candidates who genuinely like each other and care about our members. Their passion for the NAR was evident and we are fortunate to have such committed volunteers as leaders. Good luck JoAnne and John!
