State and Local Issues Committee

I currently serve on NAR’s State and Local Issues Policy Committee. This committee is a great fit for me as I hold the elected office of Town Council Chairman and Deputy Mayor in Ledyard, CT. Our meeting held today at 9:00 am covered a number of important topics including transportation, tax, and ballot issues, all of which should be of concern to REALTORS® no matter what part of the country they are from or whether they have a role in their local government.

A major focus was a presentation by Brian Blaesser of Robinson & Cole on State and Local rental regulations and restrictions, specifically on short-term rentals including Airbnb as they relate to property rights. A lively discussion followed on this subject as members reported on issues in their own locations.

NAR has provided significant research on this topic some of which can be found in the Field Guide to Short Term Rental Restrictions.
