Illinois Association of REALTORS 2016 President Mike Drews receives a certificate during this morning’s REALTOR® Party Member Involvement Committee, recognizing his state for surpassing a 25% response rate to NAR Calls for Action.

Here’s a way to make a critical difference for your industry without spending a dime and by merely clicking a link on a text message or email: respond to NAR Calls for Action! NAR membership consists of more than a million members, but we needlessly squander a huge amount of political capital by failing to take the few seconds needed to respond to calls for action. Literally a few seconds! When you receive an email or text message asking for your response, clicking on the provided link instantly launches a pre-typed email message to your specific lawmaker. One more click submits your message to that legislator. The process literally consumes only ten seconds.

Small states with smaller, more personally networked memberships tend to have the highest response rate. My home state of Illinois was recognized today in the REALTOR® Party Involvement Committee for having surpassed a 25% response rate to NAR Calls for Action. That’s huge for a large state with 43,000 members. But even the state with the best response rate in the country is under 50%. That means there remains much room for improvement. My annual visits to Capitol Hill during the NAR Legislative Meetings confirms that members of Congress pay attention when our members open the email floodgates on issues important to us.

Watch for calls to action, and invest ten seconds to protect your industry and to be a hero for property rights and home ownership!
