While I’ve written about the Convention part of the festivities in San Diego, it’s time to talk about the Expo portion.
The Expo will be at the San Diego Convention Center and opens on Friday, November 13 at 3pm and is only open until 6pm that day. For the rest of the week, it’s open Saturday 9-4pm, Sunday 10 to 5pm and then on Monday from 9am to 1pm. If you have time, go to the Grand Opening on Friday. You’ll be glad you did.
On your REALTORS® Conference & Expo app, which I hope you’ve already downloaded, you’ll want to pay attention to three options on the main menu: Exhibitors, Quick List, and Maps.
In the Exhibitors screen, you’ll see this:
This will give you a long list of every category for every exhibitor to help you plan out what you want to see and who you’d like to talk to.
The Quick List is a great way to keep track of the things you want to do at the Expo as well as the other meetings. Let’s click on one of the exhibitors randomly.
From the advertising option in the above screen, we click to this sub menu.
From there we click on Public Relations/Business Identity
And from there, we click on Homes For Heroes. Do you see that star at the top left? If you click on that, it will show up in your Quick List to remind you that you wanted to stop by.
NOTE: You can also do this in the Committee Schedule and the Conference Schedule as well. If you’ve uploaded your schedule from the Convention website, that will show in your calendar on the app. This is just another way of keeping track of what you you’d like to do while you’re in San Diego. I found it very helpful last year in New Orleans.
The maps screen gives you the entire layout of the expo as well as the rest of the convention. If you’re on a cell phone, it might be hard to read but you can zoom in and scroll around. This will be extremely handy if you find yourself looking for a restroom (they’re near the entrances and the back right of the hall as you come in) or can’t find an exit.
The thing about the expo is that it’s your opportunity to talk with people from companies you’ve seen mentioned on social media throughout the year. Many will be offering special deals for convention goers, which is a great way to try out a product. Bring plenty of business cards with you since most of the exhibitors will be holding drawings daily.
Plan on at least two visits to the expo. The first one is for just walking around and getting a lay of the land to see where things are. The second one is your real visit – plan enough time to be able to talk to all of the vendors you want to.
If a vendor has a product you’re currently using, stop by and say hello. Let them know how you are liking or disliking the product. Feedback is very important to these vendors from us “feet on the ground” folks.
Again, take some time to learn the app to it becomes almost second nature to you by the time we meet in San Diego next week!
